XENOPHOBIA

I have been really saddened by the ever increasing cry of black students mostly from Africa, of being racially attacked by Russian men, whom I may call incompassionate.

These Russion fellows have been going around chasing the walk alone students and heavily land on them blows which say probably nothing other than "go back to Africa, Russia is not your country". This reminds me of Iddi Amini and his saga on Indians.

I remember at one time USSR was in the frontline in helping young Africans to study in Moscow. There was even a university with the name Patrice Lumumba, which has changed now. One could not imagine at that time what is happening right now. What has caused this xenophobia? I welcome comments.

I listened to BBC and one student said that African girls are not attacked so often. Why? Is it a sign of weakness to attack a woman? Another student responded by saying that by attacking males, Russians feel more in control of the situation.Another said it is an issue of jealousy to attack boys because they date beautiful Russian girls!! Oh my God!

To study in Russia is much more cheaper than in West.Perhaps the Universities in Europe and America should cut down the cost to allow more Africans and other International student shift the focus from Vodka country to more loving hands.

It is the 21st century and racial attacks still exist!! Ooooops!

That's a terrible story. It's interesting that the USSR was very welcoming to African students. Was that particularly true in Tanzania because of Nyerere's socialist policies?

I think Russia has undergone a very troubled period since the fall of the USSR, they've had many problems with alcoholism, poverty, and crime; that could be fuelling intolerance.

I agree it would be very nice to see more scholarships and opportunities for African students to study in Europe and North America. It would also be great to see more exchanges of students and of knowledge and research between African and North American and European universities.

I think the International agencies like UN and Human Rights organizations must intervene in this issue. I have been wondering why the International Community is dull on this issue of very serious racial attacks which is claiming the lives of innocent blacks. I can not blame the fellow Africans who are going there as sometimes they are being forced by economic hardship and on the other hand few number of universities which only accommodates division one , two, and division three for women.

Taking an example of Zimbabwe it’s now a hot issue and the country is suffering from barriers imposed by International agencies only because it touches the powerful country! Now that this touches Africa nothing has ever been done.

Now African Union has to wake up and do something for Africans. I think some strong measures should be imposed on Russia so as they can do something like making their immigration policies pleas able. Racial Discrimination is Inhuman and It should be abolished!!!!!!
